Tools reference
Every Shippp MCP tool, what it does and whether it reads or writes.
You never have to call these tools yourself — your AI client picks them based on what you ask. This reference helps you understand what the client is doing and what your client's approval prompts mean.
Note
Every tool is annotated for your client: read-only tools are marked as such, and the one tool that can make destructive changes (
shippp_apply_change_set) is flagged. File IDs are optional — tools default to the file open in your editor.Inspect
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
shippp_list_units | Lists the file's screens and components, and its saved revision. |

shippp_get_context_pack | Resolved values for specific layers, with where each value comes from (token, breakpoint, component). |
shippp_list_snapshots | Lists saved versions that code can be generated from. |
shippp_get_capabilities | Which operations are allowed on given layers. |
shippp_get_command_schema | The exact format of edit commands. |

Edit
Requires Read and write access.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
shippp_plan_change_set | Dry-runs a set of edits without changing anything. High-impact plans need your approval. |
shippp_apply_change_set | Applies up to 50 edits atomically on the editor's own path. Returns an ID for reverting. |
shippp_revert_change_set | Reverts the client's own change sets without touching anyone else's later work. |
shippp_upload_asset | Uploads an image (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or SVG) to use in the design (2 units). |
Repository
Requires a coding client that can write files in your project.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
shippp_bind_repository | Binds a repository to a Shippp file once (needs your approval) and writes shippp.target.json. |
shippp_sync_repository | Plans and applies a sync of generated code. Never overwrites hand-edited generated files. |
